how do I embed a 2007 document in an email?

In office 2003, I could embed (not attached) an email be using the email icon
while having a word doc open. How do I do this is MS Word 2007

For Word 2007 you can add the Send to Mail Recipient command to your Quick
Access Toolbar (QAT). To do so, right-click your QAT and selected "Customize
Quick Access Toolbar". In the "Commands Not in the Ribbon" category locate
"Send to Mail Recipient" and it to your QAT.

I have the same issue. When I followed the directions mentioned, the icon
remains grey/inactive. How can I activate it?

Then as JoAnn asked, what email program are you using? If your email
programs is hosted on the Internet, such as Windows Live Mail/Hotmail Yahoo,
etc, then you can't send email from Word.
