How do I edit the auto-complete address list in Outlook?

Plenty of info out there about deleting names from Outlook's auto-completion
for addresses in the To:, Ccc: and Bcc: fields, and easy enough anyway!

But often a widely used name won't appear in the list. Alternatively I have
to type the email address itself to be recognised, or the surname - this
despite the fact that in the person's contact, I have both "file as" and
"display as" set to display as firstname-surname.

Any ideas?

No native way to edit this file.
There is a 3rd party program that can edit the .NK2 file (the AutoComplete
cache file). You can also use it to backup and restore the NK2 file and to
create Contact Records from your NK2 data. You can read more about it here:
