How do I disable XP Pro DVD software?

I have an LG DVD multi-drive which is causing hang-ups. LG advise current driver is compatible with XP Pro, but think problem could have something to do with the DVD software in XP. They suggest I try disabling this. Any ideas how I should go about this?
 
Modify yr xp installation, and remove it

There is no built in DVD software in XP.

You probably have WinDVD or PowerDVD for playing DVDs.. .which both belong
to their respective manufacturer or something like Nero, Sonic or Roxio for
burning DVDs.
