How do I disable internet .....

I am using a cable modem which is on all the time. Is there an easy way
in XP to disable my connection. My firewall is picking up literally
thousand of 'pings'. I would like to disconnect when not using the
internet without having to turn off the modem.

Disable your NIC Card.

If you have an Icon on your desktop, right click
on "Network and Dial-up Connections". Look for the your
network card that is Active. Right-Click on the card and
select Disable.

This will kill the network connection you have to the
Canle Modem.

I don't know what kind of cable modem you have but all I
do is disconnect the bottom cable from mine. It just
pulls out of the back of the modem easily.
