How do I delete moved items from my Inbox

Why will the e-mail message not disappear when I move it from the inbox to a
new folder? The original message in the Inbox gets a line across it and
greyed out after I move it to a folder, but remains in the Inbox as well as
moving to the new folder. It is very frustrating as I've tried everything.
 
Is this on an IMAP server? Sounds like you're moving unpurged yet-deleted
messages.
