How Do I Delete a W/U Icon in the System Tray?

Mike

I have my Automatic Updates Properties set to "Notify me but don't
automatically download or install them."

Since I.E. 7 was foisted on us as a Priority Update two weeks ago,
up popped that little yellow shield with the black exclamation mark
and settled itself onto my System Tray. Every time I boot up, it says
the usual, "Updates are ready for your computer. Blah, blah, blah"
I 'x' out the popup window to get rid of it, but have tried (unsuccessfully)
to get rid of the actual shield in the System Tray.

I do NOT want I.E. 7! If you go on to the:
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general forum
(or, for that matter, any of the other million forums out there), more people
are having trouble with I.E. 7 than I care to deal with right now.

Normally, I keep 'up to date' with everything, but this is
[my] exception, which proves the rule. I'm sure a lot of people have had
no (or minimal) problems with it, but I just don't have the time right now
to reset everything (even if everything goes alright).

People have said the Add/Remove doesn't work completely, setting a
System Restore point doesn't work, even the fact that you're not supposed
to download I.E. 7 from the Windows Update site itself (but to go to
some other site, which I can't recall off the top of my head right now).
How much all (or some -- or none) of the above is true or not, I don't
know (and frankly don't care right now). I just don't need the grief.

All that being said, does anybody know how to remove that warning
shield from the System Tray?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Thanks, but I chose the method in the other N.G. (since there
were regular updates scheduled anyway). I've saved it in case
it ever happens again...
