How do I create links between office programs

I have just created a document in word.
I now want to create a presentation in PowerPoint using some of teh text
already used in Word.
How do I create a link so that when I update the information in my Word
document it will automatically update my presentation?

Go to Insert, Object, choose Create from File, find the file and check the
Link box - this will linkback to the original file in Word and update
automatically. Bear in mind that if you run your presentation on a laptop or
any other computer you may have a problem!

I tried your explanation but it only inserted the first page of the file. The
file is approximately 100 pages long but I do not need all of it in the
presentation. I want to highlight specific text in the file and import it
into PowerPoint. Is this possible?
If I then update the text in Word at a later date I need the presentation to
be updated.

Hi Popeye-

AFAIK, you cannot create an OLE link to a specific location within a
different file. There is at least one alternative, however.

First, create a Bookmark in the Word doc based on the location of the
passage, then select & copy the bookmarked content. Close Word & save the
changes.

Second, on your PowerPoint slide go to Edit>Paste as Hyperlink.

(Alternative: Rather than the 'copy & paste' method, select an object on the
slide & use the Insert>Hyperlink command. In the dialog box Browse to &
select the file, click after its name in the Address field and add
#bookmarkname at the end of the string.

The doc content will not appear on the slide, but the hyperlink will enable
you to click while running the presentation & the doc will open in a Word
window directly to the bookmarked location.
