How to restore the Automatic updating of linked files Word 2000

From the Word 2007 help:
"By default, linked objects are updated automatically. This means that Word
updates the linked information every time you open the Word file or any time
the source PowerPoint file changes while the Word file is open. However, you
can change the settings for individual linked objects so that the linked
object is not updated or so that it is updated only when the reader of your
document chooses to manually update it."

My question is for Word 2000 if a user now gets the question:
"This document contains one or more links to other files. Do you want to
update this document with the data from the linked files? [YES|NO]"

How to restore the automatic update of the linked documents?
