How do I create a site specific search box for my Front Page site?

I use Front Page 2002 and would like to create a site specific search box in
my top shared borders. Hopefully the search box would allow users to search
for various exercise and fitness products that I sell at www.A2ZFit.com. Is
there any shareware available for this? Thanks in advance for your help!

Try the site search at www.webwizguide.com - requires a Windows server
capable of running ASP scripts.

Is the built-in FP search component not quite what you need?

Or is the problem that it doesn't run from the shared borders?

The FP search is limited to a site wide search of text used in your pages
- anything more specific require server side scripting and use of a database

Hello Stefan! Yes, the site wide search is exactly the type of search I'm
looking for so visitors can search for items of interest on my site. I just
don't know how to locate that feature in Front Page so I can add it to my web
pages. Also, do you know if it will work in shared borders?

Thanks for your help!

Hello Andrew! The webwizguide.com seemed to be of no help. However, what's
the built-in FP search component you're speaking of? If it's a site wide
search that would be used for my site only, I'm interested. Otherwise, I've
seen the Search Engine search components for the Web and that is not what I'm
looking for. I want visitors of my site to be able to search for items of
interest on my site. I just
don't know how to locate that type of feature in Front Page so I can add it
to my web pages. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your help!

If your site is running the FP SE
File New page and select the search page template

I've tried using that search page before with no luck, but I figured I'd give
it a try again. I just copied the search component from the new search page
to a different page, saved & published it, and I get a Front Page error when
I try to use the search box. Plus, I believe that search works on site
documents, but I need a search component that works with site content. Maybe
such a thing doesn't exist!

I use freefind http://www.freefind.com/ for search. It works well and is an
unobtrusive search bar (unlike Google) and you can get them to re-index
your site whenever you change content. It is advertising driven, though.
You should be able to place it in the shared border OK.

It requires the frontpage server extensions - what server are you running -
Windows? Linux?

The standard search component in Frontpage.....yes it's a "site only"
search, not a WWW search engine.

You mean this
http://www.webwizguide.com/asp/sample_scripts/site_search_script.asp is no
good....

I use it, it works well and doesn't use a database.

Only requires as server with the ability to run on classic ASP scripts

The one good thing is it is a lot more customisable than the Frontpage
search component in terms of conforming to your site design.

I'm sure there's others out there for various server configurations &
operating systems.

www.hotscripts.com is a site I frequently use for scripts - from CGI/Perl,
PHP, ASP classic, ASP .Net and everything in between with about 2-3 dozen
categories from form handlers to search engines to blogs and so on.

A very good resource.

The PC I create my site on runs Windows XP, but then I upload the site to
Yahoo. I know they employ Front Page 2002 extensions, but I believe some
features may not be covered, such as the site search component.

Sorry Andrew! When i went to webwizguide.com I could not find the search
item you suggested. Information overload I guess... However, since you now
gave me the exact page I'll take a closer look. Perhaps it'll work.
Hopefully i won't have to customize the script too much. Do you think it'll
work in FP shared borders?

I appreciate your help!

Thank you Phil! I'd really like to install a non-advertising driven search
bar, so I'll be exausting other avenues first. Who knows though, I may have
to come back to freefind.com if all else fails.
