how do i create a school directory

I am trying to merge names/phones/addresses etc for a school directory, but I
the "directory" merge does not seem to work for me
 
*What* doesn't work? We need details to be able to help you.
 
What do you mean by "does not seem to work"? It means nothing to me and we
need to know what you have done and in what way the result is not what you
expect to have any chance of helping you.
