how do I create a large image from a thumbnail in front page

I have purchased a ready designed web template in html. on the left hand side
of the page there is a ladder of 4 thumbnail image boxes. to the left of this
is a larger portrait sized box for the enlarged thunbnail image. how can I
conect the two (i.e once the thumb is clicked it shows the larger one in the
set space)?

The template should have include the JavaScript and instruction for using the feature. Have
contacted the author?
