how do i convert word 2003 so everyone can view it

I have a family newsletter written in word 2003. When I send it out, not
everyone is able to view it. I have several pictures inserted in this
newsletter also. When I tried converting it to word 97-2003, thinking
everyone would be able to view it, the file saved was too large for me to
mail. How would you suggest I do this newsletter, and why does the size of
the file change so much?

I would use a PDF Writer. There are still freebies out there, I think.
