How do I convert text file (1886 pages) to Word doc

I have a huge text file we converted to rtf and it ended up at 1886 pages,
but repaginates every time it is opened.

If you try to search on something in the file, it sometimes doesn't even
finish looking for word because it takes so long.

Any recommendations?
