How do I compare two workbooks that are not shared?

I have received two (unshared) versions of a very large workbook. I have
audited the first one for integrity, but my client has subsequently made many
amendments.
Apart from comparing side by side (which is tedious), is there any way I can
quickly identify the amendments made?

If you didn't insert or delete any columns or rows, you can use an addin
developed by Myrna Larson and Bill Manville.

Remember that this does a cell-by-cell comparison. A1 compares to A1, x99 to
x99, etc.
