How do I clear imap.aol.com Sending' reported error 0x800CCC78?

[Outlook Confusion]

I use AOL for my email accounts, using the IMAP function to import each
account into Outlook 2003. Everytime Outlook, Send/Receive, I get the
following error message:

Task 'imap.aol.com (1) - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to
send the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account
properties. The server responded: 556 CLIENT AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED. USE
ESMTP EHLO AND AUTH.'

I have no unsent emails in my outbox. And, I am confident each of the aol
accounts is setup correctly using Incoming server 143, Outgoing server 587

You need to turn on authentication on the sending server. Re-read the
instructions at <http://postmaster.aol.com/imap/outlook02.html> - steps 8-11
are what you're missing.
