How do I change the width of the labels on the axis of a chart?

Working with a column/bar chart in PPT, how can I change the width of the
field that shows the column/bar labels? There is sufficient space in the
chart area, but there is a static "field" around the axis I can't figure how
to change. Labels for the column/bars are being cut off (and my current fix
is to super-impose text boxes next to the columns).

Is there a way to change the size of the label area?

(If this does not make sense - please let me know and I will try to
re-phrase the question.)

Unfortunately, you can't change this. You'll need to use manual textboxes
and type in the labels.
