how do I change the user on outlook 2000?

I've recently moved to a new office and my computer was used by someone else
before me. I want to be able to set up Outlook for myself as it's currently
under the previous user. The operating system onthis computer is Windows
2000, so it's Outlook 2000. My own IT helpdesk couldn't help and they
suggested installing Office 2007 which isn't compatible with the operating
sytem.

I've tried this. I do everything I'm meant to but for whatever reason it just
doesn't work. When I go back into properties all my details are there but
it's not my inbox and folders and it won't allow me to send or recieve mails
using outlook

Which mail account type are you using?
Ask the IT department to set up a completely new username and mailbox for
you instead of renaming the one of the old employee. Then you can log in
with your own details on that machine and there wouldn't be any settings
left behind by the old user.
