How do I change the font size for Word footnotes in a template

I established a user template for a Master document I am writing. When I
applied the template to the subdocuments, all my footnotes changed font size.

How can I change the font size for footnotes in my template?

Thanks for a very quick reply. But ... how do you change the Footnote text
style? I see styles for Titles, Headings etc in the Style gallery, but
nothing for Footnotes.

From your use of the word "gallery," I'm assuming you're using Word 2007. If
so, click on Options in the Styles window and opt to display All Styles (at
least temporarily). Then you can find the Footnote Text style.

In all previous versions, you can force the Style dropdown (on the
Formatting toolbar) to display all styles by pressing Shift while clicking
the arrow. Note that the Styles & Formatting task pane doesn't actually
display *all* styles even if you select "All styles" (and Footnote Text is
one of the ones not displayed).

Yes I am using Office 2007 with Word 2007. Thanks very much. I was able to
follow your suggestion with no problem.

Hmm. I thought I had this all worked out, but I was wrong.

There was no "Footnote" in the style dropdown list. So I created one titled
"Footnote". I thought all the footnotes would then adjust to the font size I
had chosen. But they did not.

Somehow I need to connect the style to the footnotes in my document but
haven't figured out how to do that. Any ideas?

Thanks for all your help!

A further note of clarification on how I got into the problem. I started out
using the Normal template. It automatically used a 10 point font for
footnotes while the body of the text was larger. When I created my user
Template, I changed the Title, Heading and Normal styles to what I wanted.
But when I applied the new Template, the Footnotes changed also.

So something is telling the footnotes what font etc to use, but I haven't
been able to find what that is so I can change it. I thought my modified
Template would to it but it isn't.

The Footnote Text style is "based on" the Normal style, so changing
the latter will change the former.

No, there is no Footnote style. There are a Footnote Text paragraph style
and a Footnote Reference character style. As stated, it is the Footnote Text
style you need to modify.

Unless of course you also change the 'based on' style to 'no style'.
