How do I change the default deleted items folder in outlook?

Outlook has a deleted items folder located above the inbox. In the inbox
there is a subfolder for deleted items. I want to make this subfolder the
default location for all deleted email and can not find the place to do it.

You really can't change the locations for the default folders.

Thanks -- but then why, when I've set outlook to permanently delete deleted
items does it not delete them upon closing the program?
