How do I change parenthesis to brackets in citations?

The ISO style in citations uses parenthesis and numerical references - e.g
(1) or (2). We prefer to use brackets - e.g. [1] or [2] to discriminate them
from acronym references. Can I change the formatting style from a parenthesis
to a bracket? or can I create a new citation style?

Yes and yes.

The bibliography formatting guidelines are stored in xslt files. Those xslt
files convert the xml sources into html which is then processed by Word.
