How do I break the link between linked XL spreadsheets

Macdonald,

The links you've referring to are in formulas, and remain links. Their job
is to link to (in this case) the master workbook and get the current data.
Even if you copy them, save the file, etc. If you want to freeze the data,
you must, as you said, change it from a formula with a link to hard data.
Copying it, then Paste special - Values will convert it to whatever the
linked workbook (master) currently has, as permanent data. Or you may just
wish to copy the data from the master sheet and paste it into the new sheet.
No real reason for a link when you want to grab a copy of the current data.

I had this idea of creating a master template linked to all my other
templates. Add the address to one and all of them would have the same
address for example

I have created the master template. When I update one template all the
others get updated.
I put the following in the cells.
='[AA-Master-RS-Calculator-ac.xls]Info'!E2

The problem is that when I save the new workbook created from the template
it does not lock the data, the links are still alive.

If I go to create a new workbook from the Master template with new
information, it changes all the workbooks I created and saved.
It appears that the data in fact is not even there. It is truely a link. If
I delete the link the data disapears also. I could make a macro that would
copy the links then paste them on top of the same range as text ??

Is this the only way of solving this problem ? Or is there a simpler way to
automaically convert links to real text.

Thanks.

The reason for the links in this case is that I'm trying to export the data
that the link is refering to from an Access contacts database into a master
xl template. Then when I create a new quote for a customer the customer info
is already in the new workbook created from a template that was linked to
the master template which was updated by with a "TransferSpreadsheet" action
in Access. I'm trying to get rid of cutting and pasting.
I'm trying a varety of methods to do this but they all have little issues.

Regards
