How Do I Block Ports in Windows XP

Reading information on the MSBLAST virus, I have read
recommendations to block specific ports (not on the
firewall level). I have searched for articles on how to
do this but I have had no luck!!! Can anyone give me
some pointers!!!
 
start menu -> control panel -> administrative tools

or how ever you get there

then click "local security policy"

Then node labeled "Ip Security Policies" is your destination. Search groups.google.com for that phrase for pointers or read the
help. That should get you started.
