We have just installed AD 2003, and we wondered what's
the best way to backup up AD and then restore it on a
test server? IS it just the system state?

Basically we want to see if we can rebuild our network...

Kind Regards

Backup the System State and any data that is stored on the DC

There are two different methods of restore that I suggest you read-up on, if you haven't already. Authorative and non-authorative. Generally you'll usually use non-authorative restores for a failed DC in a multi DC environment.

Also bear in mind that after 90 days (I think that value's correct) your backup is worthless. So, keep those backups up to date!

Actually the default value is 60 days, but can be changed.
