how do I avoid the date being changed when I open up a memo?

After I save a memo and then open it, the date is automatically changed to
the date that I open up the memo - how do I avoid that? thanks

Right-click the date, select "Toggle field codes", and change the word
DATE to CREATEDATE. Right-click again and choose "Update field".

Press Alt+F9 to display the DATE field and change it to CREATEDATE. Alt+F9
to toggle back and F9 to update.
