How do i assign separators?

In India, the currency is called Rupees. Hundred thousand is called as One Lakh. Ten million is called as One crore. Accordingly, hundred thousand is written as 1,00,000. One million as 10,00,000. Ten million as 1,00,00,000. Now you can see that last three digits have been separated by one comma and thereafter for every two digits one comma comes as separator. How do i get this in excel. When i tried this in Format cells - customs using #, it doesn't work. Kindly let me know.
