How do I assign parts of an expression to a variable?

I created a relationship and it won't work. I get a default message that says
my expression is typed incorrectly and suggests that I simplify the
expression by assigning parts to a variable. I don't know what that means. I
don't know anything about assigning variables. There are no calculation
expressions in either table. The only numbers I have are a drivers license,
vehicle tags and expiration dates. I don't know what I have done wrong.

How are you setting the relation?

Did you go to TOOLS - Relationships and build it there? I do not believe
you would get such an error message if you do it that way.

Enlighten me, how do you create a relationship from the database view?

Go to TOOLS - Relationships and click on the line between your two tables
and see what kind of relationship has been established.

Hello Karl,

Maybe I mispoke. When you open access all your databases come into view. On
the tool bar up top there is a "relationship" icon. Just press the icon and
you start the process.

Ok, it is the same as using the menu. Click on the line between your two
tables and see what kind of relationship has been established.

Also click on the Join Type.

Recheck the spelling, I think it probably says "Indeterminate relationship."
This means it can not figure it out.

I suggest deleting the relationship and re-creating it again.
