how do i add symbol button in insert menu in excel 2000

I am using office 2000. in Excel 2000 on clicking on Insert menu I am not
finding SYMBOL' command in my PC. As in word 2000 on insert menu "SYMBOL'
command appers, the same expected in excell so that I may make use of symbols
while drawing maps in excel sheet. the procedure of selecting Character from
character map is very cumbersome and time consuming. Please help me..
