I have a Dell computer and would like to add a partition to my C: drive. I
have XP home.
How do I do this?
Gary

The only way you can create, delete, resize or merge existing partitions,
and not harm your existing Windows installation, is to use
a third-party partitioning program such as Partition Magic 8.
http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/

Otherwise, a "clean install" of Windows XP will be required
since you'll have to delete all the existing partitions and create
a new single partition.

If you have unused space on the hard drive then use Start - Run -
DSKMGMT.MSC. It will show you the allocated and unallocated space on
the drive and you can create a new partition using that space.

If you do not have any unused space on the hard drive then you have
two options:
1. Reduce the size of the existing partition (C:) and then create the
second partition in this unused space. Unfortunately DSKMGMT and the
other hard drive utilities supplied by Windows do not have the
capability of changing the size of an existing partition. You will
have to get a third party utility for that purpose.

2. Leave things as they are and purchase a second hard drive and
install that into the computer so as to provide the additional disk
storage capacity that you need.

There are several partitioning utilities available that will make
changes to the existing partitions without destroying the contents.
These include Partition Magic which is now owned by Symantec but which
still can be accessed through the old address at www.powerquest.com
and BootIt Next Generation from www.bootitng.com

Good luck

Thanks for the quick courteous replies....I ended up taking a suggestion to
do a fresh reload..delete the C drive then remake the C and resize it so
there would be free space...then made a second partition and formatted it to
NTSF....now have an "F" drive (partition) to put things on that I do not
want to loose if I have to format and reload the Windows XP operating system
on Drive C:
