How do I access System Administrator

K

In VHP, how can I access the System Administrator account? It's
refusing to allow me to uninstall a program even though I'm a Computer
Administrator. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

By default it is disabled in Vista You can do what I did. Type in the run
box 'control userpasswords2'.
then advanced > advanced > users > Aadimistrator. Uncheck account is
disabled.

You have to log into Safe Mode. You'll see the Administrator account on
its login page.

This is not correct.

Booting into Safe Mode in Vista is not the same as booting into Safe Mode
with XP. In Vista when you boot into Safe Mode, you will only see the login
for your own administrator account, not the built-in system administrator
account.

Hi, I'm having the same problem uninstalling. If I run Control
userpasswords2 at the lusrmgr screen it states that the snap-in may
not be used with VHP. What else can I try?

I have Vista Home Premium. I tried this suggestion. when I got to the
advanced menu it, I didn't see users instead says: "This computer is running
Windows Vista Home Premium. This snapin may not be used with this version of
windows. to manage user accounts for this computer, use the User Accounts
tool in the Control Panel." So I guess Microsoft wants me to upgrade to
Ultimate before I can use the System Admin account, just like them, using
predatory business practices. Any ideas. VHP won't let me enable the sys
admin, can I do it in safe mode?

Are you talking about the Built-in Administrator account? Are you logged on
with an administrator account?

You should be able to enable this account using a command prompt.

Go to Start and type cmd in the search box. Right click the resulting
cmd.exe and select the Run as administrator option. When the command prompt
opens, type the following command.

net user administrator /active:yes

Press ENTER.

You should see a "The command completed successfully" message.

The next time you log off or restart the computer you should see the
Administrator account on the welcome screen.

But you can't change user account priveledges in home. You need ultimate for
that.

This is not correct. You do not have the advanced tools in the home versions
that are included in the Ultimate or Business versions, such as the Group
Policy Editor or the Security Policy Editor, but you can simply use a
command line prompt to make these changes in the home versions, such as the
one I posted in the previous message.

You should have at least one administrator account on the system? This is
the account that you need to use to make changes.

If you have no administrator accounts, try logging into Safe Mode. The
built-in administrator account should show up there if there are no other
admin accounts available.

I am curious as to how you managed to remove all admin accounts?

I didn't remove all the admin accounts...
I jsut can't log as the admin... only as user...
the only way I figured how to get this thing working is to DISABLE user
account priviledges... otherwise it just doesn't let me change the user
permissions...
how do you log in as the main default admin??
I don't have such an option.. when windows loads, it gives me the choice to
log in as admin or as myself, neither one of which is the real true admin
which has the authority to change stuff... i don't understand... how does oen
log in as the main true real default admin in vista?

If you do not have an administrator account that you can log in with, then
all of the admin accounts must have been either removed or changed to
standard user accounts. If this is the case, then you should be able to log
in to Safe Mode and when you see the safe mode log in screen, the built-in
administrator account should be one of the the choices. Log in with this
account and you should be able to go to Control Panel/User Accounts and
create a new administrator account. Use this new account to log in when you
reboot into normal mode.

To get to Safe Mode, reboot the computer. When the computer first starts to
initialize, press and hold the F8 key until you see a black screen with log
in options. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and press Enter.
