How Create a discussion page

D

Dianah

Ok ... I want to create a discussion page. I looked at help, but it seems
to only shows me how to "edit" such a page. FP2002 explains how to start
one, but those instruction don't work in 2003 version and 2003 doesn't
explain how to "start" it.

Can someone point me in the right direction, so that I can get started.
Thanks in advance. Diana

I am just a novice in this, but now I am able to create
discussions on the website after I have installed
Sharepoint Team Services on the server. Maybe there are
other ways which I do not know of however.

If your online server site has the FP Server Extensions use File New (New Web Site) and select More Web Site Templates - the
Discussion Web on the General tab
Recommend you create any DW as a subweb (do not use add to current web), instead enter your root web URL and a subweb name - say
http://www.yourdomain.com/forum/ (your host will need to support subwebs
You could also just create a subweb
- in Folder List create a new folder (say forum) under the root and then right click it to convert to web
- Double click the the web to open it then use File New (New Web Site) and select More Web Site Templates - the Discussion Web on
the General tab, and select the add to current web option

Stefan,
I must a loser ... I just found it. It's after 4 in the morning, so I guess
that explains the failing braincells. I'll work my way through it before I
ask many more questions. There are a couple of things I need to consider
before I create it. I guess I'll need to decide on whether to give it a
"thread" or "flat" view. I know the pros and cons from my own perspective
and I'd prefer a thread view.

Can I assume that my visitors won't have any problems posting. I guess I
have to create a form of some sort. Anyway ... I'll give it a try tomorrow
evening. I gotta get to sleep if I wanna get up for work. Thanks a bunch

The DW template will create all the forms you need for posting and replying

You still may have some problems if the FP permissions are not set right. When I set up the DW and tried it out, I kept getting a log in screen. Failure to log in resulted in a "you don't have permission to ..." error
