HOW COULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN

Sorry about the confusion but how can microsoft let this
happen

Have you been hit with unwanted advertising or Spam? The
message you received is the newest form of internet spam.
You don't have to have an email account or even a web
browser. You received this message due to a built in
feature that Microsoft included in Windows XP, 2000, and
NT.

The worst part of all this is that some computer experts
have indicated that it is also a potential SECURITY THREAT
that hackers can use to infect your computer with a virus
that is untraceable by current anti-virus software.
Messenger pop-ups are defined to be pop-ups that are sent
via the built in Windows Messenger Service, which means
you don't even have to be at a webpage to receive these
type of pop-ups

The answer to your problem is ByeByeAds. ByeByeAds is
software that is designed to eliminate these annoying
messenger pop-up messages and protect your computer
against possible viruses by eliminating this hole. With
ByeByeAds software you're a click away from eliminating
those messenger pop-ups and protecting your computer at
the same time.

How would you like it if I were to slash your tires and
then tell you that I can sell you new tires that are slash
proof or break your windows and tell you that I can sell
you unbreakable glass. what you are doing amounts to about
the same thing. Although there are no laws (at this time)
for your unwanted solicitations it is still an invasion of
my computer.
You also state that I my computer is exposed to these
unwanted solicitations and to buy your software if I would
like to stop them but you are the worst offender. Your
company is unscrupulous and if I could find a way to sue
you I will. Stop this extortion it will come back to hunt
you.

There are plenty of free programs out there that will help you with your
problem. There are also a lot of free resources out there that will tell you
how to protect your PC.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/communicate/stopspam.asp
for Messenger Pop Ups

and for IE Pop Ups you can use e.g. Ad-Aware and clean your PC. Ad-Aware can
be downloaded from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ ... There
are also other programs out there that will help you with it.
Also you should clear (delete) all the Cookies and Temporary Internet Files.
(Open Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> General Tab.

And what is most you can do ... don't visit any "questionable" sites that
infect your PC and it will solve your problem with IE pop ups. :)

It isn't Microsoft's problem that you don't have a firewall installed - if
you use the Internet, you need to secure your machine, and that's your
responsibility. See my Good Housekeeping post above and please stop posting
copies of spam.
