1) are you online at the time?
2) check your account settings? outbound smtp server is reachable?

William, I did not change any settings...and, yes, I am on line....I have a
cable hookup (comcast). I can receive email but when I send it goes right to
the outbox and stays there. If I open the outbox it will sit on top of the
list (in bold letters) and then it will change to italics and move to the
bottom of the list.

for the marked read problem: http://www.slipstick.com/problems/outbox.htm

are you clicking F9 or the Send/Receive button? if so, are you getting any
errors in the progress dialog? (tools, send/receive, send/receive settings,
show progress.)

I have this same problem. It is not consistent nor is there a rhyme or
reason which ones send or do not; and some emails have been delivered even
though it stays in the outbox and says "mail not sent". It is especially
prevalent on emails sent to multiple contacts.

I had a problem with this and found there was something not right in the way
the addresses were put into the to/cc/bcc fields by my contacts (in Vista).
When manually entering email addresses I no longer had any emails stuck in
the outbox.
