fresh install . XP HOME. How do I get the hard drive letter to change to C:
???

Gizmo, be very careful. If you currently have XP installed on the G: drive
and you change the drive letter to C:, you probably won't get it booted
again.

Right click My Computer and select Manage. Select Disk Management. Right click the drive in question and select Change drive letter......... Note: You will not be able to change the drive letter of the boot or system drive. In this case, your best option is to reformat and reinstall.

If you really must have the hard drive as C:\, and if XP is installed on it,
you will need to re-install XP. However, before you do that, remove all
other drives, except for one CD/DVD reader, which is required to install XP,
and the floppy. Remove all external devices, except for the monitor, mouse,
and keyboard. Also, be sure to delete all partition on the hard drive, not
just format it. Then, the XP installer should create a new partition called
C:\. Persoanlly, I think that this is a lot of work just to change a drive
letter. But, your choice.

i take it this is an HP computer. i just did a clean XP pro install on a
family member's Pavillion. today, i was going to finish it up, and after
booting it up, i realized that the hard-drive was I:, and the 4 card memory
card reader was assigned c:,d:,e:,f:,the dvd was g: and a cd-rom drive was
h:.

since all i did was repartition the hd into one large drive, as it should
be, unlike the original HP setup, and install windows and nothing else yet,
my solution was to just do a system restore back to the way he originally
got it when it was new, unfortunately. IMO, it really is a bad setup.

oh well....it's his computer not mine. i'm NOT going to spend the time to
re-install with all the excess crap unhooked, then reinstall XP....again,
then install more apps.

Hi,

What is holding drive letter "C"?. Whatever is will need to be detached from
the system when you do a clean installation.

Why would anyone want to help this clown when its obvious
he knew what he was doing by setting his post in the
present ( future time ) ... I wouldn't help anyone that
does this on purpose like him .. Its very annoying and he
shouldn't get any help at all ... I would bet on it or
guaranteeing he done this before ... Let all stop clowns
like him for getting any help at all ... Lets make
example out of it .... DO NOT HELP THEM
