how can u get autocorrect to correct word plus format

In 2003 I had several shortcuts set up for bacterial names eg lp
autocorrected to Legionella pneumophila in italics. I can get the lp to
Legionella pneumophila but cannot get it to be in italics too any ideas

Autocorrect will not hold formatting, but Autotext can.
To get formatting saved in an Autotext entry you must include the paragraph
mark when selecting the correct words. If you don't see the non-printing
characters, either press the Show icon on the toolbar, or press Ctrl+Shift+8,
to toggle the view.
You will have to chaneg the "code" from "lp" to, say, legpn and the option
will appear with the italic formatting.
For more on AutoText, see

Hope this helps

Actually, you can get AutoCorrect to hold formatting.

- Type the words in a document and format them as you want them.

- Select that text.

- Go to the AutoCorrect Options dialog (in Word 2003, Tools > AutoCorrect
Options; in Word 2007, Office button > Word Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect
Options).

- Click the "Formatted text" option button. The formatted text will appear
in the With box.

- Type the abbreviation in the Replace box.

- Click the Add button and then OK.

- If you're prompted to save the Normal template when you exit Word, say yes
(that's where formatted entries are stored).
