How can i verify my e-mail address in Instant Messaging?

I just signed up for Instant Messaging. I have to verify my e-mail address or
it continues to say "e-mail address unverified". The isntructions say go to
my e-mail, look for the message and simply verify it. But no e-mail is
waiting for me. ?
