How can I use mixed numbers in a document, e.g. roman then Arabic

I want to use mixed numbers in a document, e.g., start with roman numerals
then Arabic numbers? I want to start with the roman numerals, then switch to
standard Arabic numbers. How can I do that?

Hi natepicker,

What is the context - page numbering, paragraph numbering, something else?
