How can I transfer everything to another laptop?

I was just given a new laptop with 2000 on it - i want to transfer everything
from my current laptop running xp pro to the other one. i've been foraging
posts for ever and my eyes are tired. I lost my xp pro CD but have my license
code and everything-i just want 'my' computer in the new shell
Ghost image?
oh I also have a problem with .net framework and cant fix because I have no CD
please help

Hi,

You will need a WinXP CD, as you will need to run a repair installation when
you make the hardware change. Until you obtain one, do not attempt to
transfer the system.

so after I find a CD, file transfer or Ghost? I have lots of programs and
whatnot that would take forever to either re-install or download again
will microsoft send me a new cd?

Hi,

Microsoft will send you a new disk if you purchased a regular retail version
of Windows, the steps to follow are here:

If you purchased an OEM version, you would have to go through the vendor for
replacement. What you actually *should* do is simply move the drive over,
then boot the machine with the XP CD and run a repair installation. This is
done by starting the installer, agreeing to the licence screen, then
selecting the option to repair the existing installation. This will rebuild
the system file set specific to the new hardware.
