Hi. I'm running Windows XP (Home) on a Dell Inspiron laptop with a CD/DVD-W
drive. I was working in Windows Explorer and tried to copy a large folder of
irreplacible photos (jpgs) to a CD-R for safekeeping.
When I right-clicked on the folder I wasn't given the option of copying the
entire folder to the CD. So instead I clicked on "Copy". Then I manually
opened up the blank CD's folder ("write to disk") and clicked on "Paste."
XP opened the transfer window like normal, but instead of saying "copying"
it said "moving."
Everything seemed fine (the files did transfer to the "write files to CD"
folder) so I clicked on "write files to CD."
I walked away and when I came back the CD was ejected and the folder
indicated that everything had transferred.
BUT WHEN I EXAMINED THE CD, all I saw was the Title I had given it (when
prompted by the XP CD-Writing Wizard) and no files!!! And because XP decided
to MOVE rather than COPY the files I cannot find them on my HD or on the CD.

WHAT CAN I DO TO RESTORE MY PHOTOS? I DIDN'T DELETE THEM BUT THEY'RE
GONE!!! (and not in the Recycle Bin).
If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it!!!
Thanks.

Download and run Restoration or another Undelete program. The more you
use the hd with the deleted files, the more data you overwrite, so you
should download the program to a flash drive, or floppy.

Thanks Joe, but none of the recovery programs I tried worked.
I tried Recuva, Restoration, and several other trial or free versions. For
some reason none of these programs can find the 200+ jpgs that were all
stored in one folder. It's as if the files never existed.
I've tried scanning for the folder name as well as individual file names
(that I can recall), but none ever come up. When I enlarged the scanning
parameters (e.g. "all file types") they still didn't show up.
This simply doesn't make sense. I have tried to limit my HD-use since the
mishap last night, but even assuming some files being written over, the
utilities should find something.
I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions?
