How can I tell if sentences in one document are in another?

I am trying to compare two documents to see if sentences in one document
appear in another document. I have been trying to use the merge and compare
feature, but it only finds part of the text that is duplicated. Can anyone
help me please?

You could use Find: copy the sentence in document 1, switch to document 2,
Find. Rather tedious to do it manually if there are many sentences. The
process could be automated by macro.

Several academics have written (and posted on the net for free download)
applications that do this sort of thing for purposes of detecting plagiarism
and sharing in submitted assignments. Can't remember any sources off-hand:
try Google.

Change the font of one document completely to, say, red. Add the documents so
that they are one document. Now sort the document using Table, Sort. Look for
paragraphs of different font colour following each other. This might make it
easier to spot duplication.

You could change each sentence to a paragraph using Edit, Replace.
