Hi all,

How can I tell if I have Service Pack 1-A for XP Pro? According to the
System Properties screen, I have Service Pack 1. It is not showing up in
Windows Update and not showing up in my Windows Update history either.
Thanks for any replies.

Hi,

If you already have Service Pack 1 installed, you don't need to install
SP1a.

For more information view this MS Knowledge base article
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813926

The main difference is SP1a does not include nor install Microsoft Virtual
Machine, which provides support for running Java programs.

If it shows you have SP1, then everything is ok. The only difference between
SP1 and SP1a is that 1a does not include JAVA.

Whether you installed SP1 or SP1a, the System Properties
screen will show SP1 only.

SP1 and SP1a are the same except for the fact the MS Virtual Machine
has been removed from SP1a. Therefore, it is pointless to change to SP1a.

The only difference between SP1 and SP1a is that the Virtual Machine for
Java was left out from 1a, as a result of a court ruling in the suit by
Sun. Go to Start - Run and run WJView
If you get a display of information about Java, you have the engine (and
therefore the SP1 level)
