How can I tell for sure if a card is dead? (9800xt)

Hi:
I just bought a used 9800xt and put it in an Asus A7N8X deluxe
motherboard.
"Bitchin Betty" said: "System failed VGA test"., and the post
never finished.
The molex connector is plugged in properly and the fan spins up
on the card.
The card is definitely seated properly.

I know the motherboard setup is ok because I normally run an
800XT in the AGP slot. All I did was pull it out and put the 9800xt
in its place.

Is there anything I can look for on the card to tell me whether
its bad? Any tests that I can do?

Have you tried clearing the bios with the cmos jumper? Power plug
fully seated on the card?

If your interested:

ATI 9800Pro for $70.00.

The one I got works well.
