I opened up a word document that was an attachment to an email in outllook,
worked on this document and forgot to save it and accidently clicked on no to

If you didn't save it, there is nothing to retrieve. If you opened it
directly from Outlook, there would probably be nothing to retrieve even if
you had saved it, since it is saved in a temporary folder and deleted when
you quit Word.

No. When you edit a document directly from the attachment, everything goes
into a temporary folder. When you close Word and the attachment, the folder
is automatically deleted.

Next time, before you start editing, save the attachment to disk.

Hop into your time machine and tell your earlier self to not do this.

This is one, of a number, of reasons to not open attachments directly from
email.
