How can I resize the page?

J

June

My son used my computer while I was away. Now, every page I open (Internet,
Word, Outlook Express) takes up the entire screen, so I cannot see the
bottom of the page. I have tried restoring the system to an earlier date,
and using Zoom (works for Word but there is no default so I have to do it
every time).

Tried Zoom for Internet pages, but it only changes the size of the font, not
the page size, so I end up with fuzzy words and the page still taking up the
whole screen.

Went to "Help" which said to put pointer on borders and drag, but it does
not work either.

Would appreciate any help you may have to offer.

Right click a blank spot on the desktop and choose Personalize.
On the left side select "Adjust font size (DPI)".
Change is back to 96 (Normal).

Check the shortcut properties to them and see if he set them to open
Maximized. Otherwise they should open at whatever you first set them to
when you first opened them and changed their size.

I tried. There is no "Personalize." All that came up was Properties which
offers Theme, Desktop, Screensaver, Appearance and Settings (resolution.)
Anything else I can try?

I do not have Vista, only XP. When I called about installation, they said to
wait it out because users were having so much trouble. Then I forgot all
about it. Should I install it now?

I don't know what you mean by "them." Check the short cut properties to
what? And where would that be. Thanks!

Called who? About installation of what? Vista?

Most users have had very little trouble with Vista. I've been running
it here since RTM in November 2006-- for almost two years--and I've
had no trouble at all.

Whether to install Vista or not is your choice, but you need to
consider two things in particular:

1. What hardware does your computer consist of. Vista needs a more
powerful machine than XP, and unless you have significant enough
hardware, you may experience poor performance. In particular, most
people need 2GB of RAM for good performance.

2. A change of operating system should be driven by need, not just
because there is a new version available. Are you having a problem
with Windows XP that you expect Vista to solve? Do you have or expect
to get new hardware or software that is supported in Vista, but not in
XP? Is there some new feature in Vista that you need or yearn for?
Does your job require you have skills in Vista? Are you a computer
hobbyist who enjoys playing with whatever is newest?

If the answer to one or more of those questions is yes (and your
hardware is adequate for Vista), then you should get Vista. Otherwise
most people should stick with what they have. There is *always* a
learning curve and a potential for problems when you take a step as
big as this one, regardless of how wonderful whatever you're
contemplating moving to is. Sooner or later you'll have to upgrade (to
Vista or its successor) because you'll want support for hardware or
software that you can't get in XP, but don't rush it.

I say all the above despite the fact that I'm a big Vista fan. I think
it's the best and most stable of all versions of Windows.

Thank you so much! That helps. I don't remember to whom I posed the
question, but I now understand what I should do. Now, if I can just re-size
these stupid pages that take up the entire screen!

You're welcome. Glad to help.

For everyone: Checked DPI. It was on Normal (96)

Also, I cannot ask my son what he might have done because he is back on
active duty.

Something worked, because Word is now back to normal. So problem remaining
is getting Internet pages downsized.
