How Can I redirect an IP to a UNC without using DNS

Hi

I have decommissioned a file server but all the data which was on it
was split between 3 new servers. some users will have shortcuts
pointing to files using the unc path. The problem is that one person
could have a shortcut to a file which is now on server A another user
to ServerB and another user to ServerC. For this reason I cant simply
add a DNS entry redirecting the IP of the old Server to a new one as
there are 3 new ones. What Im hoping to do is configure each users PC
to point to the server that their file now resides on. I thought this
was possible using LMHOSTS but Im not sure.

Can anyone advise.

Cheers

You can do this with the hosts file but I would strongly reccomend that you
recreate the shortcuts instead. You will certainly chase your tail at some
point in the future if you don't. Just my $.02
