how can I read registry on old HD to recover some keys?

I recently replaced a hard drive and did a full install of everything from
scratch and recovered some things like My Documents etc. Unfortunately one
application has lost it's master disk. Both system are Win2k. I managed to
retore the program and the associated .dll files but ot my user key. I need
to read the registry on my old hard drive (now mounted as drive g:) with the
new system so I can save the relevant keys to a .reg file.. How can I do
this? regedit only works on the active registry so I can't point it to the
registry on another drive. I also don't want to screw up my working
system!!!!!

Use Regedt32 and its "Load Hive" feature. Typical instructions here:
http://www.rwin.ch/xp-live/regedit.htm

The instructions there were made with Windows XP. The Regedit version
in Windows XP is not the same as the Windows 2000 version. The Windows
XP version of Regedit can do this, the Windows 2000 version cannot, with
Windows 2000 you have to use Regedt32 to do this. The instructions are
otherwise practically the same for both registry editors. You have to
"Highlight" the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key for the Load Hive feature to be
available.
