How can I Re-install and Save My Documents?

The opening screen on my laptop says: "Windows 2000 - file
missing or corrupt
<windows2000root>/system32/ntoskrnl.exe. Please reinstall
a copy of the above file."

When I tried to re-install, a message said I would lose
all files in My Documents if Windows was re-installed,
unless I chose another folder. I need to keep the info in
My Documents if possible. How do I do this?

I also tried the repair option. Got a message saying:

"Automated System Recovery encountered an internal
inconsistency <A2210> and cannot continue. Please contact
your support representative for assistance."

If anyone knows how to install to another folder - and
could explain how to do this, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

I have found this error to mean that the setup disk / files that you
are trying to re-install are not the same build or type (.i.e Using a
Win 2000 Server disk to fix/repair a Win2000 professsional)
