How can I put my IE Favorites folder into an external hard drive?

I like to keep my Favorites folder in an external hard drive. I've just
reinstalled Windows XP Home and XP SP2. Normally, I just drag the Favorites
folder from C:\Documents and Settings\Username into my external hard drive
and copy my favorites into the dragged folder. By doing this Internet
Explorer looked at the Favorites folder in my external hard drive. I tried
this today and I cannot move or rename the Favorites folder.
How can I put my IE Favorites folder into an external hard drive?
