How can I open an XML file in Word

Hi, i've searched this forum and can't find something very basic.

Sorry, first experience with XML. I'm on MS Word 2003 and just got an XML
file from a client that I need to put in a word document?

I created a blank document in word, clicked on File/Insert and selected the
file and the file type of xml, however, the document ends up to be 300 page
(it is only a 50 page xml file).
