how can i open a wps file with word 2003?

I have some old files in wps formatt and I have the 2003 microsoft office
which will not open them. Please help?

There are several flavours of Works, which require different converters. Try

What version of Works? There is a Works 7.0 text converter on the
Word/Office 2003 CD, but you might not be installed automatically. In Word
when you click on File | Open, in the "Files of type" dropdown menu, is
"Works 2000 (.wps)" a choice? If not, close Word, then click on Start |
Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Microsoft Word/Office 2003 | Change,
and add the text converter from your CD. If you need a Works 3.x, 4.x, 5.x,
or 6.x text converter, you can download them from Word MVP Graham Mayor's
website http://www.gmayor.com/Zips/WorksTextConv.zip and install them in your
TextConv folder.
