How can I make a fraction (5/6) appear as one?

I and typing a document and have a mixed number within my text (such as 1
5/6). I want 5/6 to appear as a fraction so it can be read easier. How can
I make it appear as such?
 
I tried this and it doesn't work

I highlighted it but I have already selected autoformat - fractions and yet
when I typed 1/9, highlighted it and selected auto format, it didn't change
